Haunted places in Romania
Bran Castle, Brasov
One of the most famous places in the world, when it comes to celebrating Halloween. This castle is the home of Vlad Tepes, also known as Vlad the Impaler. Most of us know him as Dracula. Although not being able to transform into a bat and suck blood off people’s necks, his reputation was as equally cruel. In fact, his father was one of the founders of the famous ‘Order of the Dragon’. This order was created with a sole purpose to protect Christianity from the Ottoman Empire back in the 15th century. Vlad II Dracul (the Dragon), was known for beheading Ottoman soldiers and putting their heads on spikes to warn other enemies of what would become with them if they continued raiding his native Wallachia. Bram Stoker’s famous novel ‘Dracula’ was inspirational by Bran Castle’s leader, Vlad II Dracul.
